Fertilizer imports surged by 121.36% during the first four months of FY2024-25 (July-October), reaching 612,622 metric tons worth $374.876 million, compared to 334,675 metric tons valued at $169.262 million in the same period last year, as per Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Medicinal product imports also increased by 18.59%, totaling $406.452 million for 12,441 metric tons, up from $342.730 million for 25,312 metric tons last year. Conversely, insecticide imports fell by 31.49%, recording 8,717 metric tons worth $44.831 million, compared to 13,226 metric tons worth $65.441 million during the previous year.
Plastic material imports showed a marginal decline of 1.85%, with 630,414 metric tons worth $790.156 million imported, down from 657,633 metric tons valued at $805.090 million.
Overall, Pakistan spent $3.066 billion on agricultural and chemical imports in July-October 2024, a 7.66% increase from $2.848 billion in the same period last year. Agricultural machinery imports saw a significant rise of 70.92%, reaching $39.616 million compared to $23.178 million last year.
